Welcome to Your Place in the Woods!

A place known to some as “Leonard’s Mills”, a place where all are welcome, and a place where interest & enjoyment of our state’s rich forestry and logging history is fostered, celebrated, and ALIVE!

Our goals: to celebrate Maine’s rich forestry & logging history through education, programming, demonstration of authentic equipment & working displays, and to be better stewards for preservation and conservation! We are an outdoor living history museum, with several major events throughout the year…to see what we’re about, come to one of our events, or, between events, the Museum is a lovely place to walk around – and, we have a NEW DOG POLICY in effect March 31, 2025! Check out our “Visit Us” page for detailed Dog Policy Rules!

“$10,000 In 10 Days!”

A Chance to Support Getting Children Outdoors!

Please consider helping us “pay it forward” to the school children of Maine!

Please support our “$10,000 In 10 Days” fund-raising campaign!

The Museum’s most popular event is our annual “Children’s Days”. In 2024, over 870 students from school systems all over the region attended! 2025’s Children’s Days are on consecutive Thursdays & Fridays: May 22 – May 23, and May 29 – May 30. This year, for attending school students, we are striving for a “no charge for kids” policy, which can be achieved by reducing our non-profit’s expenses – expenses that are historically met by charging admissions fees to the students for this event. Your support and (if you’re able) your very much appreciated donation can make this happen!

Volunteers Needed!

Looking to help behind the scenes? Come join the crew! We need volunteers to make our events special and to help keep us looking good! Please see our volunteer page for more info.
